Almost sixty percent of United States mothers and fathers assist grownup kids

A recent research finds that 59 percent of United States mothers and fathers are still supporting their non-student grownup kids. According to the study, the tough economy is to blame for keeping many of them at home. Some of them are turning into so-called “boomerang kids,” by leaving home and moving back again.

Pressure on the new generation

President and CEO of NEFE is Ted Beck. He said, “Parents are continuing their involvement longer than we expected. The general sentiment is that financial pressures are higher for this generation.”

This was something parents and young adults surveyed agreed with. Compared to their mothers and fathers, grownup children think their generation has and will continue to have tougher fiscal pressure. This is what 65 percent of grownup kids said. This was something only some of the adults agreed with though. Only 32 percent felt this way. Their children’s finances were a thing of concern though. About 43 percent of respondents said they were “legitimately concerned” about how their kids made and spent money. About 37 percent of individuals said they hoped their kids would not have to struggle financially.

All of the little pieces

Fifty percent of parental support goes towards housing. About 48 percent of parental financial support went towards living expenditures. Transportation costs make up 41 percent of parental aid.

Among grownup kids living at home, 75 percent say they are helping out financially, and 42 percent say they are contributing in non-financial ways, such as cooking and house work.

What else is there?

The economy is the only reason for this trend, states psychologist Vivian Diller. She wrote “Face It” and is well known for the book. “In the last 20 to 30 years, the family structure has become more child-centered,” she says. “Boomer parents were very willing to make sacrifices for their kids, giving them the sense that it would continue until they were on their feet. Now parents are supporting kids’ lifestyles.”

But, she warns, continued financial pay for could have negative consequences. “Because they have been protected, some children don’t learn reasonable ways to manage money, and they run into trouble.”

How parents sacrifice

Thirty percent of parents that were surveyed say they have given up privacy because of adult kids moving back home. Taking on more debt was something 26 percent did. Then there is the 7 percent that have had to delay retirement. This is all for their children.

“If parents are going to financially support their adult children, they should first have a serious talk about their kids’ expectations so that everyone protects their financial futures,” Ted Beck says. “We all want to ensure the best for our children. But if you are taking on extra debt or delaying retirement to help your adult child, you could be making a mistake and putting your own financial future in jeopardy.”

Portland mayor seeks gender change operation coverage for community staff

Transgender community workers of Portland, Ore., Mayor Sam Adams believes the city should pay for your gender change medical operation. As a matter of civil rights and fairness, Adams thinks Portland should cover such a vital medical operation for city workers, as other corporate health plans do for non-city employees. Portland Area Council will vote on the sex change regulation as early as next month.

’Fair, common sense,’ he claims

Mayor Adams told The Oregonian newspaper that the transgender medical operation bill amounts to “fair, common sense.” The legislation may end up becoming law going against the decision made last year. Last year the committee in the Portland decided not to have gender change surgery covered in Portland. The denial ended up taking place. This was since the city didn’t choose entirely to change area policy like this.

According to Adams’ estimates, transgender surgery benefits for Portland community employees would cost around $32,000 per year. The community would have to increase its self-insurance plan budget. It would only be about a .08 percent increase though.

Anything ‘medically necessary’ is covered

In 2008, the American Medical Association has identified transgender health care as “medically necessary.” Under the AMA resolution, withholding coverage for procedure of gender identity disorder when such procedure has been prescribed by a physician is not allowed.

“As Mayor, it is important to me that we attract and retain the best and brightest employees to the City of Portland,” writes Adams in a press statement. “Covering basic, medically-necessary care is a matter of fairness, and it’s the right thing to do.”

Insurance to select from

Portland gives two opportunities to employees for health insurance including a self-insurance plan called CityCore and insurance through Kaiser. Adams’ suggestion would make Portland much more like the companies in Oregon surrounding it and like 22 percent of Fortune 100 Corporations. This is because CityCore would cover gender change surgery.

It all started in San Francisco

San Francisco became the first U.S. area that had transgender medical operation benefits available in a health plan in 2001. Then-Mayor Willie Brown and the San Francisco Board of Supervisors approved a bill that extended coverage of the sex change operation for area employees, also as accompanying hormone treatments and related medical needs.

When that occurred, going female to male cost $77,000. Going male to female only cost $37,000. Fees were capped at $50,000 per person for life in the San Francisco ordinance while 15 percent if the surgeon is on the area health plan had to be paid.

Frauds promising debt relief and debt consolidation still out there

You can hardly turn on the Television or radio anymore without watching some kind of advert for a debt relief or debt consolidation business. Several of these businesses are perfectly legitimate, but there are some that are not. There are still a lot of debt relief businesses that are actively trying to keep away from complying with the regulation.

Crooks ignore Federal Trade Commission regulations

More than half a year ago, the Federal Trade Commission created new rules to help deal with the growing variety of grievances about ineffective or fraudulent debt settlement and debt settlement businesses. Debt servicing businesses, according to KNDU, an NBC affiliate in Washington state, are prohibited from asking for an advance fee, have to make specific information available up front and can’t misrepresent themselves in any way. The upfront fees on the service and what a person can save both have to be told to the person. This is upfront information. There are still many businesses not following this law. This is a problem.

Getting a business in trouble

WalletPop states that the states of Washington and New York did a sting with Freedom Debt Relief and found out it did not follow debt services’ laws. The California firm was found to have misled customers in those states. In both cases, the business settled. It settled for $2 million in payments in consumers. The company is dealing with a class action lawsuit right now. It also made similar settlements with four other states. Two corporations were illegally “robocalling” and leaving messages for customers that were automated, report the Wall Street Journal. This won the Federal Trade Commission two large settlements against the businesses. The two companies promised reduced debt for a hefty fee when robocalling individuals. These corporations were Dynamic Financial Group and Advanced Management Services NW. Advanced Management Services offered a refund if efforts were unsuccessful, but both businesses would just pocket the cash and send a card tellin! g consumers to pay charge card bills on time.

Go back to an old saying

Don’t forget that “if it looks too good to be true, it most likely is.” This is especially true with debt settlement company promises. The Federal Trade Commission and Federal Deposit Insurance Business agree on one thing. They both suggest anything that says you can pay “pennies on the dollar” to get something removed from your credit is a scam you should stay away from. Also, it is illegal for any debt settlement or debt reduction company to ask for any money whatsoever until after the debt is reduced or somehow changed. Customers can get a debt reduction plan from nonprofit debt counselors too. According to the FDIC, don’t go straight for the for-profit debt reduction services. Jackson Hewitt goes bankrupt after ending tax loan funding

Jackson Hewitt is filing for bankruptcy, though the nations’ second largest tax preparation company is only doing so in order to move around debt. New regulations made it extremely hard to secure funding for tax refund loans, dealing a heavy blow to Hewitt and other tax preparation firms. Tax preparation market having a difficult time after rule change

This is since the loans are considered too risky after the IRS rule change. Hewitt was not able to get the funding needed for its debt and filed Chapter 11 protection.

Only a few months of bankruptcy

According to Hewitt, the bankruptcy will only last for a few months. It should be able to begin repayment debts and restructure itself after that. Since Hewitt almost completely relied on refund loans and got into a ton of debt trying to fund the loans, it got in trouble with its lenders. Hopefully, the company will be able to recuperate totally. It will no longer rely on tax refund loans if this occurs. Republic Bank and Trust is the last major organization that still funds refund loans. This has gotten the bank into a debate with the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation about it. BusinessFirst reports the Republic is getting a $2 million fine by the FDIC because it continues to fund the loans. The loans can be lent responsibly, Republic suggests, since it made a huge profit off the loans in the first quarter of the year.

No more of a credit product

Soon, the refund anticipation loan, or RAL, may not exist. It is dying off. It has been suggested that they’re just like paydayloans. The consumer is able to get a portion of the refund for an urgent check rather than waiting for a tax refund to come. The “fee” is just turning the refund over to the preparer. A person does not have to wait weeks to get the refund from the taxes. Somebody with a $600 refund could, rather than waiting on it, just get $530 from a preparer. The return has to be accepted for the customer to get the RAL. Then, the preparer gets the refund from the IRS. RAL funding is something the FDIC doesn’t support. This is because there is no way to accurately choose if the customer is worthy of the loan.

Not guilty plea entered in Rutgers webcam suicide case

Dharun Ravi, a nineteen-year-old former student at Rutgers University, today entered a not guilty plea to 15 charges in a New Brunswick N.J. courtroom. Ravi has been accused of using a webcam for the reason of spying on his eighteen-year old roommate, Tyler Clementi, during an intimate encounter with another man. The webcam incident, which allegedly led to Clementi committing suicide, made gay bullying a national topic.

Sentence could result in being as much as 10 years

When it comes to Tyler Clementi’s suicide, Dharun Ravi is being charged with 15 different related charges. While appearing in the courtroom, he didn’t say anything. The plea for the charges was given by Ravi’s lawyer, Steve Altman. Of the charges, there is one more serious than the others. It is bias intimidation. The charge suggested Ravi was not impartial in his actions. It was Clementi’s sexual orientation that started it all. Ravi could possibly receive 10 years in prison if convicted of that charge alone. Invasion of privacy and evidence tampering are also integrated in the charges.

Clementi apparently ‘outed’

Ravi and Clementi were roommates when Ravi “outed” Clementi. Ravi posted “Found out my roommate is gay” on Twitter. Evidently Ravi then connected the comment to a gay chat room. This is where Clementi was supposedly talking.

How he spied

Ravi tweeted “Roommate asked for the room ill midnight. I went into Molly’s room and turned on my webcam. I saw him making out with a dude. Yay,” on September 19, 2010.

On September 22, Clementi committed suicide. He jumped off the George Washington Bridge to do so.

Tampering with evidence

Prosecutors in the case say that Ravi then deleted Twitter and text messages in a try to cover up his alleged crimes.

Prepared status conference for July 25

A status conference on the case has been scheduled by Judge Glenn Berman for July 25. Both Ravi’s lawyers and the Middlesex County Prosecutors may have evidence. Before then, this evidence should be shared.

Witness signed up for intervention program

One of the key witnesses is Wei, who’s also charged with invasion of privacy. She was put in a pretrial intervention program earlier this month. She is required to meet many conditions the court put on it. She will have all charges dropped in three years if she does this.

The family isn’t happy over it

A statement was released right after the hearing from Clementi’s father. He said, “Our family is grateful for the active work of the prosecutor’s office in this case. We’re eager to see the criminal justice process move forward.”

Fitting 513 people into a semi-truck in Mexico

Two semi-trucks were recently discovered by Mexican cops. The trucks were jammed full of 513 illegal immigrants, bound for America. In the state of Chiapas, in southern Mexico, a police checkpoint used x-ray scanners to look at the trucks, which ended up being the human cargo crammed together standing upright like animals in sweltering conditions.

Human smuggling operation found near Guatemalan edge

Mexican cops busted a small human smuggling operation near the edge of Mexico and Guatemala, in the state of Chiapas. There were checkpoints near Tuxtla Gutierrez that two semi-trucks were driving through. With x-ray equipment, reports MSNBC, they found hundreds of people in the trucks. The 513 people found in the two trucks were dehydrated and hungry. They had cargo ropes hanging for the people to hang onto to keep themselves upright during the drive.

The number of immigrants being smuggled came from over five different nations

The individuals packed in the back of the trucks were from numerous countries. There were 47 from El Salvador, 32 from Ecuador, six from Nepal, on from Japan, one from japan, 12 from India and the rest from Guatemala. Most were male, but there were 32 females and four children. Four smugglers were apprehended when they tried to flee, and their human cargo is in the care of Mexican cops, according to CNN. The smugglers wanted $7,000 per person, according to the Chiapas general, and only had air holes drilled to the top of the trailer. The people would be put in different trucks so they could go to the U.S. after being re-routed in Puebla. In Jan, a truck containing 219 migrants was found in the same region.

Using Mexico to get to the United States

Mexico is where many immigrants travel. This is where they go first if they want into the United States eventually. According to Mexican authorities, a find like this has not happened in a long time. BBC states that it was a quite large find. Coyotes, or coyotaje, are what the human smugglers are known as. They get illegal immigrants across the edge for a payment. Migrants have little recourse in the event of injury and can be subject to abuse. According to the Christian Science Monitor, there were 72 migrants killed by the Zetas narcotic cartel in August last year while between April and September last year, 10,000 were kidnapped.

Travel to Cuba is fine as part of cultural exchange

For the last half century, the U.S. and Cuba have not had the best relationship. A small number of individuals were allowed to go to Cuba in 1999 when Clinton signed a bill to allow it, reports MSNBC. The Kennedy administration’s Cuban embargo is still in effect though. The law allows for travel to Cuba for “people to people contacts,” or in other words, an individual has to go with the intention of engaging in cultural exchange and learning about Cuba and the Cuban people. Groups have to have plans to visit museums, farms and factories before they can go.

How you get in now

In order to go on this kind of trip to Cuba, an individual has to book a trip with a group that is authorized to conduct such tours. The State Department won’t have to approve travel itineraries anymore ahead of time meaning it will be easier to get into a tour of Cuba. However, Cuba it isn’t a fantastic place to take the children. Though the “person to person” travel exemption has been reinstated and more individuals are going there, most travel to Cuba is for academic, journalistic, governmental and religious purposes or for a limited range of commercial purposes, according to the State Department site. As long as relatives are Cuban nationals, individuals can go to Cuba to see them. In the Swiss Embassy in Havana, there is a U.S. Special Interests Section that functions as an embassy. A domestic terrorist

Kaczynski was born in Chicago, Ill., in 1942 and was considered a mathematical prodigy. When he was sixteen years old, he got his undergraduate degree at Harvard. He got a PhD later from the University of Michigan. This was in mathematics. It made Kaczynski frustrated when technology became important to society. It started to rely on technology. Now, at the age of 69, Kaczynski is serving a life sentence without chance of parole at the “supermax” prison in Florence, Colo.

The irony of it all

In a statement to the press, “We will use the technology that Kaczynski railed against in his various manifestos to sell artifacts of his life,” was what United States Marshal Albert Najera said.

How much the items will go for

Nobody knows how much value is really in these items. ”This is an unusual type of case,” says Lynzey Donohue who is a Marshals spokeswoman. “It’s really difficult to put a value on these items because of the intrinsic value they have based on his notoriety.”

Getting investment in a large idea or large business can be tough, but is possible. Several of the businesses that we all use each day, however, are not a big idea. They are the restaurants, boutiques, coffee shops, and hotdog carts that we use every day. A startup, called OnDeck, is attempting to make it easier for these smaller businesses to get a credit rating independent of their owners.

Small business lending problems

It could be difficult to qualify for a small company loan. Businesses without a credit history or business history sometimes have a hard time getting loans from financial institutions. Loans for amounts less than $100,000 are often considered not worth the work it takes to vet a full business with the standard 14-item business loan package. Faced with these two realities, many owners of companies with fewer than 25 employees end up using their personal credit to secure financing. While this does tie business success to personal accounts, it also creates a dangerous brew of expensive financing and risk to personal finances that scares several potential business owners.

The CFPB, in a bid for greater transparency in the mortgage industry, plans to require a simpler, less confusing mortgage shopping sheet. The bureau is being led by Obama administration adviser Elizabeth Warren. On Wed the agency website released two possible types of a simpler mortgage disclosure form for public scrutiny. Reactions have been mixed from industry and consumer sources.

Forms confuse most

The CFPB claims that concealed charges and unreasonable terms are often hidden within the confusing language of the forms currently getting used by lenders. Currently, two mortgage disclosures are required: the federal Truth in Lending Act (TILA) mortgage disclosure and the Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act (RESPA) Good Faith Estimate. The two will be reduced into one-page, front and back, instead of five pages by combining the two. It is the “know before you owe” project being done by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.

Two opportunities

The presentation on the form is different for both. The information is still the same though. All of the information (rate of interest, monthly loan payment, taxes and closing costs) are put on the form. Monthly payments, and how the loan will change the payments, can be seen. Penalties and other charges that could possibly be added on will even be put on the form.

Confusion could be costly

”Getting stuck with the wrong home loan can cost tens of thousands of dollars over the life of the loan,” was what Warren said. “(This) is a clear, simple form so consumers can get better answers to two basic questions: Can I afford this mortgage, and can I get a better deal somewhere else?”

People react differently

There have been mixed reactions. Restrictions on lending variation are a major concern for industry groups. Customer groups are more worried over it making all foreclosures extremely hard to stop.

Still not a requirement just yet

Not every financial institution will get the new forms right away. On July 21, the CFPB will start as part of the Dodd-Frank Act. The CFPB will then conduct five rounds of testing in six different cities before introducing an official form in September. It is possible that the form rules will not come until July 2012. That is how long the bureau can take to make it official.

Some reports have emerged that the "hacktivist" group called Anonymous might have found itself a new target. An open letter was found on a website known to be affiliated with Anonymous. The Westboro Baptists Church was being directed at with a letter found on a website. This website has ties to the "hacktivist" group Anonymous. CBS reports that the letter made it seem like a Directed Denial of Service, or DDoS, attack would be directed at the group by Anonymous. In the letter, it said the church's “inhumane treatment of fellow Man has reached its apex." It also stated that Westboro Baptist Church needs to stop what it is doing. BBC reports that Anonymous members said a DDoS attack on the Westboro Baptists or even the Phelps family would not occur since you will find "more pressing matters to deal with" right now.

Drumheller also said members of the Bush administration used Curveball’s tale to justify the war to the public because it was the only evidence they had, even with the truth.

Even though about 4,500 United States military members and over 100,000 civilians in Iraq have died due to the Iraq war, Curveball said he was glad to have helped the Bush administration go to war. Al-Janabi's home of Germany does not approve of what was done. It is a criminal offense to lead to war with one's actions. German intelligence paid al-Janabi for five years after it was known that he had lied; $4,000 a month. Germans want to know why that is. Politicians in Iraq have said that he should be exiled permanently instead of returning.

Conscience clause was instituted by Bush

During President Bush’s final days in office, a conscience clause was inserted into laws pertaining to medical care workers. There were several concerns stated by the Bush administration as to why the conscience terms were submitted. These included giving single women birth control, treating homosexual individuals and giving emergency contraception.

The rules are "unclear and potentially over-broad in scope." This is what the Obama administration thinks of it all. How the federal funds are regulated

There are clearer definitions of the conscience law with Obama though. There has been more attention put on women's health. There can be far fewer roadblocks to abortion, contraceptive and fertility treatments with the new rules.

In the United States, students in college have racked up more than $885 billion in education loan debt. While students are on the hook for the majority of that debt, some families are facing heart-wrenching decisions. Some households are being held responsible for student debt even after the student dies.

The student loan market

Student loans are large business. There’s a federal loan program that offers loans to students. Per student, $5,000 a year is offered. Much of the time, that is not enough. Books at school cost half that alone much of the time. The government will not back the private student loans. Also, students without a credit history need a co-signer to get the loans typically. It’s easier to get an education loan than a no fax payday advance sometimes. One of the reasons it’s so easy, however, is because student education loans are not affected by bankruptcy — they’re practically impossible to write off.

The Christian Science Monitor explains the Mubarak followers did not like journalists much. The journalists would get singled out. While on the scene and fleeing the scene, there were over a hundred incidents of physical assault which included CNN anchor Anderson Cooper was beaten. There has been lots of trouble with foreign and domestic journalists. This is because "thugs" that are pro-Mubarak have stormed the Cairo Al-Jazeera offices.

From the beginning of the protests, Leader Mubarak has been defiant about leaving. He has been in office for almost 30 years, however a full democratic election confirming him to office has never taken place. He says that "there will be chaos" and "the Muslim Brotherhood will take over" if he were to leave even if he is tired of the unrest, MSNBC reports. He has invited leaders of opposition groups to start talks to possibly create a transitional government.

Problems with NV home foreclosures

In Nevada, there’s a B of A subsidiary called Recon Trust. All Recon Trust house foreclosures have been halted by a judge that put up an injunction in Nye County, Nevada. On Jan. 11, a homeowner sued the bank for fraudulently trying to foreclose on her. There was merit found in her case by the judge. Judge in FL rules for plaintiffs against medical care law

The constitutionality of the medical care law has been directly challenged in a ruling from a FL judge. Roger Vinson, a U.S. district court judge, is the second judge so far to rule against the medical care law. He agreed with the position outlined in a lawsuit filed by 26 state attorneys general. Vinson agreed with the plaintiffs that the specific mandate legally binding Americans to be covered by medical health insurance is unconstitutional. Specific mandate and the Commerce Clause

The medical care law is unconstitutional according to United States District Court Judge Vinson who was appointed by Reagan as a Republican judge. He suggested that the Affordable Care Act be thrown out in its entirety. Since Americans have to buy health insurance or pay a penalty, it is a tax, according to the CAP. Several reforms to help the budget shortfall are being proposed by governor O'Malley who’s a democrat. There could be several million, if not billions in reductions to state budgets. State employees, however, may also be providing a great deal of the emergency cash the state needs to pay the bills. Applications for buyouts are being accepted by the state. That means individuals could be paid to leave their jobs. About 1,500 applications for buyouts have already been received. The state will probably accept most of them.

Expense of medical care a concern

There is one thing the Maryland legislature keeps arguing over. This is the health care laws. A huge shortage will occur with it. The system requires it. Maryland providers that are long-term are seeing spending budget reductions. Already, $180 million will be happening. The amount that states are willing to pay for Medicare and Medicaid has gone down a lot as budgets have been stretched and the states have become responsible for these costs. For many long-term care facilities, that means trying to care for seriously ill patients on less and less cash each day. Brandi Favre, younger sibling of retired NFL star Favre, has been arrested in Diamondhead, Miss., reports the Associated Press. Favre, 34, has been charged with producing crystal meth, possession of a controlled substance, transferring that substance and producing toxic waste, according to Maj. Matt Karl of the Hancock County Sheriff’s office. Brandi Favre and four others were taken in handcuffs from her upscale condo on Golf Club Drive in Diamondhead. Charges anywhere from felony shoplifting to unlawful use of a weapon which happened with a drive by shooting are what Favre has been arrested for within the past.

The Stir reports that Westboro Baptist Church Pastor Fred Phelps has sounded off over the shootings in Tucson, AZ. April of this year will be when he is going to be sentenced. In fact, he may end up getting fined twice the amount of gains he received, would have to forfeit the $1.4 million in property gains he had and may be in prison for 20 years.
